Weekend crucial for Junaid, Khushi starrer [Trade Exclusive]

Loveyapa launches two star kids on the big screen. Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan and Boney Kapoor and Sridevi’s younger daughter Khushi Kapoor play young lovers in this film based on tech and its impact on modern day relationships. The two actors have been heavily promoting their film and there have also been celeb screenings to spread a positive word around their performances and the film. However, these seem to have had little impact on the box office collection. Trade pundits predict the Day 1 collection to be around Rs 1 crore gross. However, the weekend shows promise and trade experts expect this to grow during the weekend. Trade analyst and film critic Rohit Jaiswal feels the film Loveyapa will appeal to the Gen Z with its romantic moments and strong emotional connect and the word of mouth around it will give a boost to the box office collection during the weekend. An industry source tells us that the team went overboard with the promotions of the Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor starrer and some of it backfired. “The videos of Junaid and Khushi dancing, rather goofing up the hook steps, went viral all over the internet. Instead of their film or what they bring to the table, the whole attention went on this. Audiences today need strong, compelling reasons to get up, buy a ticket and head to the theatres to watch a film,” the source said. The source further shared that despite the film being good and Junaid and Khushi putting in earnest performances, the initial response has been lacklustre. However, the word of mouth and celeb reviews may help the film to gain momentum on the weekend. While the day 1 numbers are looking something around Rs 1 crore, Loveyapa may touch Rs 1 to 1.5 on Saturday-Sunday, taking the opening weekend total to around Rs 3.5 to 4 crore gross. Loveyapa is directed by Advait Chandan who has previously worked with Aamir Khan in films like Secret Superstar and Laal Singh Chaddha fame. The film has released alongside Himesh Reshammiya’s comeback film Badass Ravi Kumar.
