Creative decisions for movies can, at times, end up hurting some artistes. There are so many actors who have claimed to have shot for various movies only to see their part being edited out of the final product. It has happened to several top stars too. One such actor was severely heartbroken when he found out that his role in one of the most critically acclaimed movies was edited out. The movie featured Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji and a top South Indian film star.
The actor we are talking about is Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Today, he is called one of the most versatile actors in the Hindi film industry. But during the early 2000s, when Siddiqui was starting off, he had to start off with playing small roles. But one movie that edited out his part was Hey Ram. Kamal Haasan directed and featured as the lead of the film which also stars Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji.
Released in 2000, Nawazuddin once opened up about how he broke down when he saw his part was not included in the historical epic drama. On The Kapil Sharma Show, the actor once revealed, “Its premiere was held at Film City in Mumbai and I took at least 5-6 of my friends. I told them, ‘Boss Hey Ram aarahi hai, Maine kaam kia hai usmein (I have worked in that film).’ Everyone came. Before the film began, Kamal Haasan sahab came to me and said, ‘Nawaz, apne doston ko bol do ki tumhara role cut gaya hai (Tell your friends your role has been cut).” A heartbroken Nawaz told Kamal Haasan, “Sir meri bahut bezzati hojaege.”
The actor revealed that his friends were there for the premiere and when Kamal Haasan told him that his part was removed, he was in tears. Nawaz shared, “I went to my friends and I started crying and I told my friends that my role had been cut. I gave them the choice to watch the film or not but they wanted to watch it.” The actor revealed that Kamal Haasan’s daughter, Shruti Haasan, consoled him when he was crying.
Well, life turned out to be good for Nawazuddin Siddiqui as his talent eventually helped him succeed. He became a part of several amazing projects like Gangs of Wasseypur, Kick, The Lunchbox, Badlapur, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Manto, Sacred Games, Manjhi The Mountain Man and many more. In 2017, Nawazuddin and Shah Rukh Khan featured together in Rahul Dholakia’s Raees.
