Often people forget that actors only perform characters on the big screen. It’s not who they are in reality. Some characters are lovable. But then there are some who are meant to be hated. A hero is nothing without a villain. In Bollywood, there are a few actors who have achieved fame by just playing negative roles. Om Puri, Amjad Khan, Amrish Puri and other stars are still considered to be the most dreaded villains. But away from screens, these dreaded villains have a normal life.
Once a popular villain of Bollywood revealed how his on screen image affected him in real life and his bond with daughter was misunderstood.
When actor Ranjeet recalled…
We are talking about actor Ranjeet. The actor has done negative roles in more than 200 films. He was a part of movies like Sharmeelee, Reshma Aur Shera, Namak Halal and more. Even though he started his career playing the role of a brother to the heroine, he found success only when he did characters with grey shades. However, he played the villaineous characters so convincingly that people started presuming his on-screen persona to be real. In one of the interviews, he had spoken about how he stepped out with his daughter and people assumed that he ws going out with a young girl.
In an interview with Etimes, he narrated the episode of how he felt uncomfortable when people passed judgements over his outing with his daughter. “I used to visit my daughter when she was studying in Delhi. We would walk together in a restaurant and people would look at me and comment, ‘How disgusting! He is going out with young girls.’ There was a family sitting next to us and the husband kept shouting at them not to look at me. It was really making me uncomfortable,” he said.
Ranjeet recalled that he lost his temper and yelled that he is with his daughter. As it got clarified that he was with his daughter, people who doubted him showed up to get a picture. He said, “So I often did it to let people know that I don’t go out with call girls. It was my screen image that often scared people.”
Another interesting trivia about actor Ranjeet is that he was set to join Indian Air Force. He had even cleared the entrance exam. However, for some reason he did not pursue it further.
