Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, there were two perfect series set in the Avatar universe, but when the world needed the show most … it vanished. A decade passed and the series became a huge hit again on Netflix, and now there is a bunch of new content spewing out of the Aang-iverse. Avatar: Seven Havens will be an animated series airing on Nickelodeon, just like the originals, from Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. It’s confirmed for two books, with 13 episodes each. “When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” DiMartino and Konietzko said in a joint statement. “This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters.”
While the original ATLA’s world was inspired by a variety of ancient cultures across Asia, and its sequel series Legend of Korra took from the industrial revolution, Seven Havens is a different beast. Per the press release, it is “set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm.” The series will follow “A young Earthbender who discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra — but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”
The news of the upcoming series comes on 20th anniversary of the original’s premiere. It does not yet have a premiere date, but it will likely come after the upcoming feature film focused on Aang, scheduled for January 2026. Then, there’s also the still-airing live-action adaptation of ATLA on Netflix. Guess the world must really need it.
