Based on “Moving” author Kang Full’s webtoon, “The Witch” is a mystery romance that follows the story of Mi Jung (Roh Jeong Eui), a woman known as the “witch” who was chased away from a village after all the men who fell in love with her died, and Dong Jin (GOT7’s Jinyoung), a man who tries to rescue her from the mysterious pattern of death.
Roh Jeong Eui plays the mysterious woman Mi Jung, who has isolated herself from the world due to the “witch” label.
Roh Jeong Eui remarked, “This project holds a special place in my heart as it showcases a different side of me compared to my previous roles,” and added, “I sincerely hope many people will join us [and watch the drama].” On her decision to take on the role, she explained, “I’ve always loved Kang Full’s webtoons, and the opportunity to work with Director Kim Tae Kyun and Jinyoung drew me to this project.”
Reflecting on the filming experience, now complete as the premiere approaches, she shared, “I’ve learned the most as an actor through this drama. It taught me that there are still many ways I can grow as an actor, and I’ve received a lot of comfort from the people involved.”
She was also drawn to Mi Jung as a character. “Mi Jung is a lonely person who distances herself from the world for the sake of others,” Roh Jeong Eui explained. “Since she’s a woman of few words, I had to create her atmosphere solely through expressions.”
That’s why bringing Mi Jung to life wasn’t easy. Roh Jeong Eui mentioned how she had many conversations with Director Kim Tae Kyun and noted how music became an integral part of her process: “There’s a song that instantly transforms me into Mi Jung. Even now, it still brings tears to my eyes.”
A central theme of “The Witch” is Dong Jin’s quest to unravel the mystery surrounding Mi Jung’s misfortune and help her reconnect with the world. Speaking about her co-star Jinyoung, Roh Jeong Eui said, “Since Dong Jin watches over Mi Jung from a distance, I saw Jinyoung more in the waiting room than in the scenes. He has a way of conveying emotions that draws you into his performance. Acting alongside him was both immersive and enjoyable, and his thoughtfulness made filming a joyful experience.”
When asked about the drama’s appeal, Roh Jeong Eui playfully responded, “Jinyoung and I are in it!” She elaborated, “It’s a blend of mystery, romance, and more, offering diverse charms. We worked very hard with the amazing staff, and I hope it will reward viewers for their patience. It’s a drama I hold close to my heart so I hope many will enjoy it.”
“The Witch” will premiere on February 15 at 9:10 p.m. KST following the conclusion of “Check in Hanyang.” Stay tuned!
