Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is being billed as the most precious Indian film ever made. Although reports about its budget are largely unwarranted, the makers are indeed going each out to insure the film is a spectacle. Namit Malhotra, who heads the VFX plant DNEG, has come on board as one of the film’s directors. In a discussion with HT, he lists how he hopes the film will change the geography of Indian moviemaking.

On Ramayana’s transnational implicit
With DNEG, Namit has won seven Oscars for Stylish Visual goods for path- breaking flicks like Interstellar and Dune. When asked if Ramayana can achieve commodity analogous for Indian cinema and have India’s hunkering Tiger Hidden Dragon moment, Namit responds,” I do n’t misdoubt that it does( have the eventuality). In fact, it’s down to us and how we can actually bring it to the world. And that’s where there is a massive responsibility in doing that.”

There have been Ramayana acclimations ahead on the big screen. The most recent one- Adipurush- was condemned by critics and bombed at the box office. Namit says his platoon understands the need to tell the story duly.” That is why we are trying to be veritably careful and conservative, that we do it with the utmost care and with the utmost perceptivity. Because, right, you know, this occasion does n’t come again and again, and it’s the moment for India right now.”

Taking Indian liar encyclopedically
Namit says that the trouble with Ramayana is to take Indian liar encyclopedically.” I am keen to not just make India proud but excite the world about Indian liar and really celebrate global cinema together. It’s not like we do not like Hollywood flicks. It’s not like we do not see an Oppenheimer and have a great feeling, or a timber Gump, or any of these, you know, corner flicks. Their stories are universal. I believe this is universal too. This is that occasion that I believe I am enough fortunate to have entered in my life, and I hope I can deliver,” he says.

Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. The other cast members include Ravi Dubey, Lara Dutta, Sheeba Chaddha, and Arun Govil. The film will be released in two corridor in 2026 and 2027.
