At San Diego Comic-Con, DC dropped the Official Trailer for Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires, an exciting animated twist that places Batman in the heart of 16th-century Mesoamer
This version introduces us to Yohualli Coatl, a young Aztec noble whose life takes a tragic turn when Spanish conquistadors kill his father. Fueled by sorrow and a sense of responsibility, he trains in the temple of the bat god Tzinacan and rises as “Batman,” the protector of Tenochtitlán and a beacon of resistance.
The trailer showcases a unique mythic vibe: Batman is decked out in traditional Aztec armor and faces off against culturally reimagined foes—Jaguar Woman (Catwoman), a spiritual Joker, Forest Ivy, and a conquistador-turned Two-Face. The animation beautifully merges historical elements with DC’s iconic style, sparking both excitement and discussion online.
Produced by Warner Bros. Animation in partnership with Mexico’s Ánima Studios and DC, the film is helmed by director Juan Meza-León and features a bilingual cast that includes Jay Hernandez, Raymond Cruz, Horacio García Rojas, Omar Chaparro, and Álvaro Morte.
Mark your calendars! Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires is set to hit digital platforms on September 19, 2025, with physical Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K editions following closely on September 23.
