“The Potato Lab” is a new romantic comedy drama set in a rural potato research institute. The story follows Kim Mi Kyeong (Lee Sun Bin), a researcher whose life revolves entirely around potatoes, and So Baek Ho (Kang Tae Oh), a cold and principled corporate director. When So Baek Ho unexpectedly enters her world, the two find themselves entangled in a whirlwind romance.
The newly released group poster sparks curiosity about the stories unfolding at the institute. It immediately draws attention with researchers gathered on a truck full of potatoes. Leading the group is Kim Mi Kyeong, known as a “potato fanatic,” alongside the chic and principled So Baek Ho. They are joined by an eclectic team—Boo Jae Joong (Yoo Seung Mok), Go Jeong Hae (Kwak Ja Hyung), Joo Seung Hee (Woo Jeong Won), Lee Chung Hyun (Yoon Jung Seop), Kwon Hee Dong (Nam Hyeon Woo), and Jang Seul Gi (Kim Ji Ah). Dressed in colorful overalls, straw hats, floral rain boots, and work gloves, they blur the line between scientists and farmers, adding to the institute’s quirky charm.
So Baek Ho’s poised and dignified presence, his tousled hair contrasting with his sleek aura, and his vacant gaze heighten intrigue about what awaits him at the research institute. Meanwhile, Kim Mi Kyeong stands confidently, keeping a watchful eye on the unexpected newcomer. The determined expressions of the researchers, paired with the phrase “Never overlook potatoes!” emphasize their deep dedication, hinting at an engaging journey ahead.
Lee Sun Bin takes on the role of Kim Mi Kyeong, a passionate potato researcher with a bold and easygoing personality. Her world is turned upside down when she meets So Baek Ho, leading to unexpected emotional shifts.
Kang Tae Oh plays So Baek Ho, the strict Director of Organizational Reform at Wonhan Retail. His rigid principles are put to the test when he arrives at the potato research institute, where rules don’t seem to apply. Every encounter between Mi Kyeong and Baek Ho sparks tension, making their unpredictable relationship even more intriguing.
Yoo Seung Mok shines as Boo Jae Joong, the seasoned veteran of the potato research institute. Kwak Ja Hyung portrays Go Jeong Hae, a self-proclaimed hipster, while Woo Jung Won plays Joo Seung Hee, the institute’s teamwork expert and the main buffer against Boo Jae Joong’s old-school ways.
Anticipation is also growing for the chemistry between the institute’s youngest members, known as the “Jangchungdong Trio.” Yoon Jung Seop plays Lee Chung Hyun, a quiet and reserved employee, while Nam Hyeon Woo brings energy as rookie researcher Kwon Hee Dong. Kim Ji Ah rounds out the trio as Jang Seul Gi, the eldest, who is always on the lookout for her next career move.
“The Potato Lab” is set to premiere on March 1 at 9:20 p.m. KST. Stay tuned!
