Amid the controversies around his much-anticipated film Chhaava, director Laxman Uttekar met Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray. Their meeting was a measure to address concerns around the film and smooth things over. Following the meeting, Uttekar spoke to the media and confirmed that all objectionable scenes from the Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna starrer will be deleted ahead of its release. He assured that the scenes wherein Vicky is seen playing Lezim will also be deleted. As Uttekar clarified, he doesn’t intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments.
Uttekar met Thackeray a day after Maharashtra minister Uday Samant raised objection over a scene wherein Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was seen dancing and said that it should be removed.
In a post on X, Samant said producers and directors of the film should take immediate action and remove all objectionable scenes. “It is a matter of joy that a Hindi film is being made based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the protector of religion and freedom. However, many have expressed their opinions that there are some objectionable scenes in this film. Our position is that this film should not be released without first showing it to experts and knowledgeable people,” he posted on X.
Earlier, Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati, a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and former Rajya Sabha MP, had also expressed his wish to watch the full film before its planned release. “I also offered to connect them with historians to address inaccuracies to ensure this significant story is presented authentically to audiences worldwide,” he said.
